Edera raises $5M to launch secure-by-design Kubernetes and AI solution

Edera, the only secure-by-design Kubernetes and AI solution, has raised $5 million in seed funding, led by 645 Ventures and Eniac Ventures with participation from FPV Ventures, Generationship, Precursor Ventures and Rosecliff Ventures. Angel investors include Joe Beda, Filippo Valsorda, Mandy Andress, Jeff Behl and Kleiner Perkins scout Nikitha Suryadevara, among others.

Kubernetes, which turned 10 this year, still struggles with secure multi-tenancy. Edera brings innovative technologies and a diverse team to solve the decade's top security challenge. Edera’s innovative approach, using a type 1 hypervisor, provides container-level isolation and eliminates the need for shared kernel states, enhancing security while reducing cloud costs. Edera supports container workloads across public, private, and on-premise clouds and doesn’t require virtualisation extensions. The platform integrates memory-safe Rust technology, addressing Kubernetes’ longstanding security gaps.

CTO Alex Zenla and co-founder Hadley Harris emphasise “Our product is built on proven technologies and introduces a memory-safe Rust control plane to radically change the Kubernetes security landscape. We’re incredibly excited to share what we’ve been able to build with our customers and the industry at large.”  

Edera's diverse team, led by an all-female founding group - Ariadne Conill, Emily Long, and Alex Zenla, who bring unique skills and experiences, setting the company apart from traditional tech startups. With a focus on diversity and inclusion, Edera aims to create an inclusive workplace while solving one of the biggest security challenges of the cloud era. The seed funding will help expand the team and develop Edera Protect AI, currently in the design phase.

Edera Protect Kubernetes is available for trial, with Edera Protect AI in development. Additionally, Edera supports the Krata open-source project, utilising Rust for secure hypervisor tech.
